Airline pilots command some of the highest paying jobs in the country. Those with a few years of experience fall into Top 1% Income bracket in India (55 Lakh/Year+) 

The process of becoming a captain in India is even quicker due to rapid growth in our Airline industry and requirement for pilots

Salaries start at 18 Lakh/Year for Junior First Officers and go upto 1.2 Crores/Year or more when you’re a Senior Captains. 

 

These are the aforementioned salaries for different standings as a pilot in India (These values may be significantly higher for International Airlines Abroad)

Junior First Officer — 1.25 - 1.5 Lakhs/ Month (18 Lakhs/Year)

First Officer — 1.5 - 2 Lakhs/ Month (24 Lakhs/Year)

Senior First Officer — 2.5 - 3.5 Lakhs/ Month (42 Lakhs/Year)

Captain —  4 - 5.5 Lakhs/ Month (66 Lakhs/Year)

Senior Captain —  6 - 10 Lakhs/ Month (Upto 1.2 Crores/Year)

With a PPL, you’re officially a pilot!! This commands immense respect from the people around you, no matter what career you decide to pursue. Once you receive your PPL, it’s valid for life. There’s only some minor procedures required to renew it once every few years.

Flight Training

  • 180 Hours on Single Engine Cessna-172R Aircraft with Garmin-1000

  •  20 Hours on Multi-Engine Aircraft with Gramin-1000 and Autopilot

  • 20 Hours on flight simulator with 120 Degrees Field of View and real time display of terrain and airports

Ground Training

  • Aero Engines

Examination/Tests 

  • Flying Tests would be conducted in accordance to DGCA rules and regulations, either by the CFI or by a DGCA authorized examiner

    • Written Exams are generally in MCQ format with 70% required to Pass

  • Written Tests on Ground Subject Tests, according to schedule published by DGCA

  • Test for Radio Telephony Restricted (RTR) license would be conducted by the Department of Telecommunications according to their published schedule

Future Prospects

A Commercial Pilot Licence holder can become a captain of a Single/Multi engine Aircraft. The licence issued is valid internationally and the students are eligible for working in any Country/Aviation Organisation. They may also work as an officer under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, become a Flight Instructor, work for Cargo planes, Private Jets, among a plethora of other career opportunities.
